The Ground Rules

Fantasy – wherein goblins and trolls battle wizards, knights, and the occasional hapless peasant.

Ancients – covering a vast time period from the birth of organized conflict to wide use of hand guns.

Pike and Shot – after the introduction of massed units of firearm equipped infantry to the introduction of the bayonet.

Napoleonic – a convulsive series of wars involving Western nations from the end of the 18th century through the beginning of the 19th.

American Civil War – Warfare in the US from 1861 through 1865.

The Old West – Covering all engagements that would appear in Westerns.

Colonial – 19th century conflicts between industrialized and non-industrialized nations.

WWII – military conflict from the 1930s through 1945.

Modern – A flexible term covering conflict since WWII.

SF – warfare in the not completely foreseeable future.
